Appears it is time to replace the starter on my 94 325is. Sometimes it starts without hesitation but other times it will just make this spinning sound when i turn the key. Been on bimmerforums and read as much about the different routes for doing the job-removal of manifold and related items versus doing it from underneath and trying to figure out which is easier. It is a 5-speed. Bentley manual makes it sound like a straightforward job from underneath. Anyone done this job lately? Any advce? Also, can I use the starter with the threaded mounting holes if mine did not have threaded mounting holes. Saw on bimmerforums where someone pointed out the difference between the pre-1996 and post-1996 starters. The post 1996 starter is longer, has thicker mounting ears and has the threaded mounting holes. He suggested to replace the pre with the post 1996 starter. Just want to be sure before i order the starter. These are usually not returnable. Hope I did not confuse you too much.

Update: Removed starter and took it to AES for rebuild and reinstalled. Cost $100 for rebuild.
