I had a DSC failure ( no speedo, no odometer, ABS and brake light in yellow, DSC Master caution { old AF term} and transmission failure mode indication) several months ago. Was told to replace left rear ABS sensor and did so with Bavarian Auto unit. All well for 3 months. then all recurred. Sent DSC processor to Module Masters ( highly recommend) and they returned saying nothing wrong/ refunded my money and recommended same sensor be changed. My independent replaced the DSC processor and checked the CPU and yes, the Bavarian unit had failed. Bavarian carries 3 of these units, and the middle one is the same as the BMW sensor without the BMW name. Highly recommend Module Masters as a real classy outfit and don't use the cheap Bavarian unit even though it has a 2 year warranty. It is going back. Car back to normal. Lone Star Bavarian in Ft Worth (Trent Cole) says that these DSC processors do fail based on the number of activations and proximity to the exhaust manifold. In the E-39 non/M this unit is almost on top of the exhaust manifold on the pax side of the car and failure is common and early. The DSC processor I now have is one that Module Masters re-built in 2008 from a 2002 E-39. Their charge a fraction of new price.
